Very interesting chart.
I already thought coaches made too much money, but my goodness, football and basketball coaches really make too much money.
I was almost really annoyed because this chart suggests that Maryland football coach Randy Edsall makes more $$ than Maryland basketball coach Mark Turgeon, and that ain’t right, but I looked it up and Maryland should actually be stripey.
According to The Baltimore Sun’s Maryland public employee salary database, Edsall and Turgeon make the same base salary ($400,000) per year. (Whew.)
(The Washington Post broke down the salaries, incentives, and other potential payments of all the ACC football and basketball coaches back in 2011 when Turgeon was hired. Slightly outdated now but still interesting for context.)

Maryland Terrapins bring spring scrimmages to local high schools

Randy Edsall wants to continue making inroads into the local talent pool. One of the first times I ever thought he deserved a high five.

First public scrimmage is this Saturday at Dunbar. Anyone planning on checking it out?

IMPORTANT: Dexter McDougle, Maryland Football Go Gangnam Style; Pete White, A.J. Francis Make Cameos

(via Testudo Times)

Yes, I still like that song. And yes, there’s a shirtless lineman in this video. (Be warned)

The best part?

A.J. Francis, who has political aspirations, makes a cameo which means that when he inevitably does run for public office, someone will be able to dig this video up and reintroduce a new generation to Gangnam Style. YAY.

To be honest with you, I don’t understand why Maryland isn’t more successful

Big Ten Commissioner Jim Delany on Maryland football

Mr. Delany, lemme explain:

Randy Edsall.

Maryland joins Big Ten in realignment move fueled by cable revenue - Pete Thamel - SI.com

The last two times Maryland has hosted Florida State, it’s been a “Blackout Game.”

It was also prime time Saturday night, freezing cold (literally: 14* and coldest night of the year to that point), and my sister and I were there.

Both times, Maryland had a very outside chance of claiming the division if they beat FSU and a bunch of other teams lost. Both times, FSU won pretty handily. At least Christian Ponder was still QB for the ‘Noles so we had something nice to look at.

When Maryland announced this year’s Blackout game, Baby Sis and I immediately ruled it out, partly because we clearly are the bearers of bad luck when it comes to Blackout games, and because she’s in London (whaaaaaat) and logistically that won’t really work.

Also, it’s a Blackout game with a noon kickoff which, in my personal opinion, totally kills the intimidation factor (which, “Black Ops” unis or not, would already be in incredibly short supply due to the fact that FSU is #8 and most of the Terps are on the injury report).

If Maryland somehow, someway, gets a miraculous win - which I would love love LOVE to see - you know who to retroactively blame for their last two home losses to the ‘Noles. And you also know who won’t be attending any more Maryland-FSU Blackout games in Byrd Stadium.

**If you’re going: Don’t forget to take a coat for former Terp Shawne Merriman’s annual coat drive. It’s cold out there, and being cold is miserable.

This year’s coats will be donated to those affected by Hurricane Sandy. If your kids or your neighbor’s kids have outgrown their coats, or if you’re like me and you have things you never wear but can’t seem to get rid of, pass them on to someone who really needs them.

#AMQBHG Strikes

Update on Caleb Rowe’s injury and the Maryland QB situation now that Maryland has no more QBs. Literally. There are no more available quarterbacks on the roster.

Iowa has been afflicted by the AIRBHG (Angry Iowa Running Back Hating Gods) this season. And when all four of Maryland’s quarterbacks get knocked out for the year (three with ACL injuries; three within one week), there has to be something else at play.

Specifically, the Angry Maryland Quarterback Hating God.

I don’t know what he has against Terps QBs, but he’s taken them all. Perhaps the next guy up, Shawn Petty, will have better luck. After all, he was a linebacker until last week.

Best of luck, kid. May the AMQBHG not realize you’ve switched to quarterback and spare you.

This is just unbelievable. Absolutely unbelievable.
I’ll have more on it over at Rant Sports later this evening.

From Testudo Times’ preseason Profile in Terpage on Maryland QB Caleb Rowe.
I’m guessing that falling behind Perry Hills and Devin Burns and expecting to redshirt, then becoming the unquestioned starter by default after they’re both injured falls somewhere in the middle of this spectrum?
I’ve been keeping tabs on the Terps’ unbelievably unfortunate quarterback situation this season over at Rant Sports:
In just the last week, I wrote about Perry Hills’ torn ACL, Maryland’s remaining options at quarterback, Maryland’s lack of options at quarterback, and the Terps relying on a linebacker and tight end because they’re so desperate for backups.
Fun stuff. (Unless you’re a Maryland quarterback.)

Check it out:

Maryland QB Perry Hills is out for the rest of the year with a torn ACL (as I guessed after he was carted off on Saturday).
Noooooooooooo. I’m so bummed!
I was a big Danny O’Brien fan and wasn’t ever super excited about C.J. Brown, but when Brown tore his ACL before the season, I thought it was super mega bad news bears for the Terps. I was wrong.
Perry to the rescue!
He wasn’t super awesome, but he got them to 4-2 which is pretty impressive considering they only had two wins all of last season.
And now he’s hurt, too.
Tough to the very end, he got hurt chasing down NC State’s star cornerback David Amerson, who’d just intercepted him, on an illegal block by the Wolfpack’s Rickey Dowdy.
As much pain as Hills was in, he still wanted to put a brace on and go back out in the third quarter, according to Coach Randy Edsall.
His play might’ve been spotty but he’s sort of a badass for A) taking over as a true freshman and doing so much better than expected and B) having that attitude that not only earns respect but makes everyone around you better.
I’ll have more on this over on Rant Sports later today, but for now, get well soon, Perry! And thanks for everything you did this season!

Maryland-Wake Forest happening now. Let’s go Terps!!
Y’all KNOW how I feel about Randy Edsall. Not so fond of the guy. But this team he has this year? All the young kids playing hard, figuring it out as they go along but playing with a lot of determination - I really like it. And I’m really rooting for them.
I know that the more they win, the longer Edsall sticks around, but I am cheering hardcore for this year’s Terps.
