Wall Street Journal crunched some numbers and found out that USC bowl games draw the biggest audiences. Zing! Too bad they aren’t in bowls for at least another year. Thumbs down.
The kicker? “The ACC won’t like the numbers. Four of the worst draws hail from the conference: Clemson, Georgia Tech, NC State and Virginia.”
NC State. See that? The NC State team that got to go to a better bowl than Maryland despite losing the head-to-head match-up. Hearing rumors the Wolfpack fans sent photos of empty seats at Byrd Stadium during that game to the bowl selection peeps to get NC State in ahead of the Terps (although anyone who watched the game on TV could see no one was there…I’m guilty of watching on tv, so I know).
My point, though, is that if Maryland finishes third in the conference, and should be selected to a bowl ahead of NC State, and NC State does not draw television audiences anyway, shouldn’t Maryland get (rightfully) picked first? (Yes.)
And congrats to the Wolfpack for the Champs Sports win tonight but 1) I’m still real salty I didn’t get to go anywhere warm for NYE/Bday/Bowl game and 2) that game was a snoozefest. Seriously. I like college football way better than NFL and I could not wait for Vikings-Eagles to come on and put me out of my misery (didn’t work).
Go Terps!
