Life Goal: Go to a Rose Bowl.
I was in L.A. for New Year’s, which is about as close as I’ve gotten to the Rose Bowl game, but thanks to the Sunday NFL schedule that bumped the traditional New Year’s Day games to Monday, I’m not even going to get to watch the game this year.
No offense to any of you Oregon and Wisconsin fans out there, but I’m not too torn up about missing the game this year, although it just doesn’t feel like a new year without watching The Granddaddy of Them All.
Maybe next year…(If I get tickets and the world actually does end a few weeks before the game, I will be seriously ticked off. And yes, you better believe that even after I cease to exist, I would still be pissed about that.)

Update: Apparently there is a long-standing rule, laid down by the Pasadena churches, that Rose Bowl festivities may not occur on Sundays. I’m told the policy predates the NFL, so while the full slate of NFL games on New Year’s Day might have impacted the rest of the bowls that were bumped, apparently the Rose Bowl wasn’t happening anyway. Regardless of the reason, the absence of bowl games, including the Rose Bowl, on New Year’s Day was weird, a little annoying, and definitely the biggest reason I wasn’t able to attend even though I was in L.A. for New Year’s.
